我很喜歡《普羅米修斯》的標語「探索人類起源，可能自取滅亡」，
不過，喜歡的原因是其中隱含的宏觀氣氛與悲劇感，並不是對這句話有甚麼認同，
雖然，這句話反映了好萊塢科幻災難片的基本角度、也符合許多守舊分子對科技的態度，
對守舊分子來說，任何「有違慣例」的東西要不是危險的、就是不道德的，
他們反對避孕措施、墮胎手術、網路交友、基因工程或生命創造，
他們聲稱以上違背神的意志－－跟神很熟的意思－－造成社會崩解、動搖道德的基礎，
並指責以上的支持者墮落、傲慢、過度樂觀，
就像被恐龍吃掉的基因學家、尋找人類起源直到被外星人殺掉的考古學家或之類的角色，
然而，守舊份子沒有搞懂的是，
問題從來就不是探索、科技或對科技的應用，問題在於他們口中「傲慢」這種態度，
所謂傲慢，可以來自對不成熟技術的過度自信，亦可以來自沒有根據的守舊與拒絕探索，
對外星人的科技與意圖毫無概念就貿然前往，可稱為傲慢，
不好好了解洋槍洋砲、堅信神明附體即可刀槍不入，同樣可稱為傲慢，
而以上的傲慢，說穿了仍是某種形式的無知，
讓《普羅米修斯》裡的科學家們走向滅亡之路的，是對危機的遲鈍、準備上的鬆散，
毀滅神明附體的瘋子們的，同樣是對壓境科技的不明就裡，
說到底，都是某種無知，
而原本有機會讓他們免於滅亡的，是更多的探索、是擁有更多知識後的可能選擇，
要是放棄了探索，傲慢也好，謙卑也好，到頭來還是要滅亡的。
